Participating in Turf Project

This current project is a development of our Signals exhibition which invites members to show their work in local venues. This year, as part of the exhibition, we aimed to encourage active participation in the visual arts through a series of local workshops in schools and youth clubs to inspire children and young people to understand their local history and gain a sense of pride about the place in which they live.

With the funding from Croydon Community Chest we have worked with over 200 children and young people.

The creative workshops enabled the children involved to express their ideas and thoughts on their local area. Their turf, what is important to them. With the help of local artists each child designed and produced a painting onto a piece of acrylic, with special glass paints ready to hang in the Signals exhibition. You can see the work while the exhibition is on in window displays at Crystal Palace Train Station and at Antenna Studios.

A big thank you to the venues and all the teachers, youth workers and especially the young people for all their help and enthusiasm which made this project such a success and a joy to be part of.
