'Signals 4' saw nearly 40 artists show their work at 35 venues in Crystal Palace. This year our ambitions grew and we collaborated with Antenna Studios, Bookseller Crow on the Hill and Haynes Lane Market. Working with them enabled Signals to include music, literary and performance events.
Signals is an amazing, possibly unique, event bringing together artists with vastly different knowledge and experience in a festival that celebrates diverse practices and aspirations.
Over the last four years Signals has encouraged artists to try out ideas and this year was no different. Artists showed new work, made temporary installations and held events such as the Artists' Fair and the Artists' Networking Evening.
Artists' Fair
Saturday 16 September
Artists took over the courtyard at Haynes Lane Market and held an Artists' Fair. Artists' work was sold alongside Artists' bric-a-brac and Artists' materials. The most unusual thing had to be John Hartley's 'Thinking Machine': an artist's project that invited people to spend a little time sitting and contemplating. The fair was a great opportunity for artists to meet each other and the public.
Artists' Networking Evening
Tuesday 19 September
Networking is an essential part of an artist's life - and CP Artists is proud to have held its first open networking event. This enjoyable evening encouraged artists to think big and talk about their projects and ambitions. Future events will focus on developing co-operative and collaborative relationships between artists and arts organisations.
We thank all our host venues - without their continued support Signals couldn't happen. We especially appreciate Kathy and her team at the Gipsy Hill Tavern (where we have our monthly meetings) and Wates Residential Estate Agents for sponsoring the 'Signals 4' pocket guide.
