SCHIMATIZO will bring together an eclectic mixture of UK-based film and video artists, both established and emerging, and working in various styles.

The work shown will address the following areas: faith, worship and places of worship, performance, time, public spaces and iconic imagery.

The event will take place at 7pm, 14 October 2005, in the Greek Orthodox Church of St Constantine and Helen, located in Crystal Palace, London.

We hope that by showing the selected works in this kind of space, i.e. a Greek Orthodox Church, we will encourage the interpretation of the different interactions, and a re-imagination of both the works and the space itself.

Francis McKee will write a piece on SCHIMATIZO to be published in the catalogue, as well as on this website, documenting the event. Francis McKee is Head of Digital Arts and New Media at CCA Glasgow, teaches on the MFA in Glasgow School of Art, and is a researcher in the field of Open Source Software and Intellectual Property. He was co-curator of the Scottish exhibition at Venice Biennale in 2003 and has also published work on artists such as Simon Starling, Salla Tykka, Douglas Gordon, Christine Borland, Matthew Barney, and Rosalind Nashashibi. Selections of his work are available on www.francismckee.com.

SCHIMATIZO is curated by Pavla Alchin and Audhild Dahlstrom.
