Artist's Statement

I am an emerging artist working with digital video and photography, and have so far shown my work in gallery environments and various film and video festivals. My work has been primarily concerned with the notion of space and time, however it also includes several pieces that could be seen as performance based (see Artworks above).

Via the media of digital video and photography, I investigate the relationship between the past and the present. My practice is informed by ideas surrounding the themes of identity and memory, space and filmic/photographic imagery relating to specific, existing spaces. Often from the position of someone who regularly visits or passes through such spaces, I try to explore their socio-historical and metaphorical meanings. I am currently working on three similar projects.

I am hoping to address questions about usage; semiotic meaning determined by changing context; phenomenological meaning - the chosen spaces being considered as ones of lived experience, not abstract. These theoretical ideas in turn provoke further thoughts on how to translate them through the media of photography and video - including sound, which plays a crucial role in my practice.
