Artist's Statement
Drawing on local history and personal family records Mo Lewis traces her identity through a series of walks and visits to the houses, church and streets where her family once lived and worshipped, in Bermondsey and The Borough in Southwark.
By recalling remembered stories she connects past and present, fact and fiction. She uses photography and found images and objects to construct narratives grounded in real places and events, which suggest past histories.
In her recent work she records buildings, children, cars, shoppers, parks and the changing of seasons in Crystal Palace where she now lives.
These photographs include incidental and transient details.
