Artist's Statement

The majority of Lynne's paintings use warm earthy oil colours, sand, earth, wax and resin, creating a very organic textural look and feel. At first glance they appear abstract but closer inspection reveals landscapes, incorporating and focusing on the scars and environmental impact of human and animal movement throughout the ages. In 'Sheep Tracks' the focus is on the scars caused by constant habitual movement of sheep following the travel lines created by their ancestors across the south downs of England.

Other works focus on ancient human travel lines crisscrossing desserts, visible only from the air. Many ancient travel lines have become roads and motorways cutting across ancient but still used animal routes, creating movement conflict between the species, as depicted in the painting 'Death Row'.

Biography

Lynne Collins was born in Lancashire in 1948. She received private tuition from an American artist for several years in the late sixties. She has worked in the film and television industry, creating mainly sculpture and models, which took preference over a more structured art education at university, which Lynne does not regret. She considered these years to be the most rewarding hands-on art education.

Since leaving that industry to work solely on her own projects, Lynne's paintings have been shown in several exhibitions, mainly on the south coast of England. She now works as an artist, photographer and film maker with photography and film at the top of her agenda at present. Her films have been shown at The Brixton Ritzy and the Price Direct Film Club.
