Biography
Joel Carpenter has been interested in art since an early age. His formal education began with art lessons at Langley Park School for boys. From the first year to A-level his artistic focus was mainly on technical ability. Towards the end of his studies at school, the conceptual aspects of the art he liked began to interest him.
The foundation course in Art and Design at Camberwell College of Arts was an excellent opportunity to develop his grasp of conceptualization in art and he started to incorporate this into his own pieces.
These skills were further developed at the University of Westminster, where Joel studied for a BA in Illustration. Being a commercial form of art, illustration taught him to be creative while working within constraints. It was during Joel's degree that he first worked in 3-d, making sculptures, and began making partially digital images.
Following his degree Joel worked freelance as a storyboard artist for television commercials including Nike, Reebok, MTV and the RAF. Joel storyboarded independent short films too. Whilst freelancing he made illustrations for French and German comprehension aids for schools.
After taking part in the 'Summer of Living Art Exhibition' in the Glades (Bromley) Joel began working full time in comics for Striker 3D. Currently he is still working for Striker 3D and producing personal illustrations for comics.
Recently Joel has returned to portraiture which is something he loves doing. Joel is also seeking to freelance around his regular work doing book cover illustrations, storyboards, portraits and comic pencils.
