Artist's Statement
Derek Curtis is an artist who explores the way nature and the natural world is represented through today's contemporary society. His artistic practice is varied, including sculpture, painting and installations. The ideas for his work evolve through the use of everyday materials used in conjunction with cultural or art historical references.
Biography
Derek Curtis was born in Slough. He completed his BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in 2000, and then spent two years as a guest student at the Academy of Art in Münster, Germany.
Recent exhibitions have included a group show at the Jill George Gallery, London (2005), and solo shows at Spanien 19C Aarhus, Denmark (2005), and Galerie Schuster, Frankfurt, Germany (2006)
