Artist's Statement
My performances explore female identity and desire through different characters and scenarios. In 'Scenes from the Wishing Room', the author searches for an actress who can play an astronaut but only finds an out-of-work Jackie O look-a-like. In 'Spank', a dominatrix draws on her childhood to reveal the influences that led to her career, not least a fantasy packed lunch and Cilla Black's hit song 'Come Inside Love'. 'Super Model' sees a woman throw herself into the high risk industry of catwalk modelling and photo shoots after attending a 'How To Binge On Your Dreams And Lose Anxiety' self-help class. The characters' journeys are interwoven with autobiographical anecdotes and imagined memories in order to blur the roles of the writer, performer and character.
